Our Story
Genesis began with a vision to create something that went beyond fashion. A space where students could explore creativity through design, performance, and collaboration.
Our story traces back to Fresco, Ringling College of Art and Design’s first sustainable fashion show, founded by Linda Liao (Business, ’23). When she graduated, she passed the project to Mobtagha Bejaoui (Business, ’26), who reimagined and expanded its purpose. Under his leadership, Fresco evolved into Genesis — a collective dedicated to bringing students together through the shared language of art and fashion.
With Mobtagha as President and Creative Director and Samantha Balikowa (Business, ’26) as Vice President, the first Genesis show debuted in Fall 2023 at the Exhibition Hall. Featuring 20 original looks, a 40-person team, and an audience of over 300 guests, the show marked the beginning of a new creative tradition on campus.
“the designs created and overall production were incredible! I felt we put on an amazing show.”
- Genesis 2023 Participant
By Fall 2024, our community had grown to over 50 members, hosting our second show at the Ringling Soundstages with more than 400 attendees. That year, Genesis also partnered with over 10 campus organizations and local Sarasota businesses, highlighting the spirit of collaboration that defines our collective.
“there was a dream, we made it possible.”
- Brallan Ramirez, Genesis 2024 Member
As Mobtagha and Samantha approach graduation, they’ve entrusted Genesis to the next generation of creatives. Lindelwa Ntshakala (Visual Studies, ’28) now leads as President and Creative Director, guiding a multidisciplinary team of over 100 students toward our next show — premiering March 21st.
From a sustainable fashion initiative to a collective of artists, designers, and performers, Genesis continues to grow — pushing creativity, collaboration, and storytelling forward.
What began as a dream has become a legacy — a stage for imagination, innovation, and the creative voices of tomorrow.
“i can’t wait for the next show. I have such high expectations because of last year’s production. next year is going to be even bigger.”
