WOVEN IN TIME

Our story this year follows a soul's journey under the watchful eyes of The Fates. Divided into three distinct acts - Life, Battle, and The Unknown - we witness the tapestry of existence unfold, one thread at a time.

Step into the presence of the three sisters - the ancient architects of our deepest passions and greatest conflicts. As they draw the line between our past and our future, they reveal the hidden patterns that define who we are. Under their guidance, every moment is a choice and every path is a revelation, proving that while our time is fleeting, the story we leave behind is eternal.

Genesis brings together a diverse community of creatives to explore the power of immersive storytelling, using the Fates as more than a narrative device, but as a reflection of the pressures, challenges, and connections that shape our lives. As these threads are woven, we watch characters, and ourselves, move through trials that leave our souls worn, frayed, and tangled, yet entirely our own, tracing a design where identity and purpose are inseparably bound.

what to expect

  • 21 designers present 30 original garments on the runway, modeled by students. Each look is the result of months of exploration, refinement, and risk-taking — coming together in a showcase that highlights the versatile skillset of the Ringling College community.

  • The production design transforms the venue into a world of its own. With sculptural Greek columns, natural elements, and dynamic spatial design, the set evolves throughout the show — blurring the line between environment and experience and grounding the narrative of Genesis in a tangible, otherworldly space.

  • Sound and motion design are crafted by students with guidance from faculty, working together to create an atmosphere that goes beyond performance. Music and motion act as extensions of the set itself, shaping the rhythm of the show and transforming the space into a fully immersive world that pulls the audience in.

  • Genesis is entirely student-led, built through collaboration across disciplines in all majors. It is a collective effort fueled by creativity, trust, and shared vision — where students come together to create something larger than any single role or medium.

  • Guests will be welcomed with an outdoor experience ahead of the show, including a photo area, live figure sketch portrait artists, and additional interactive elements. Designed to enhance the evening, this space offers attendees a chance to engage with the creative energy of Genesis before entering the venue.

“I was drawn to the contrast between love and hate, the softness and the hardness of those images, and how that reflects the battles humans face today — personally and on a global scale. Bringing the Fates into the story introduced an existential crisis, because it links to the idea that we’re all born into something we didn’t choose.” - Lindelwa Ntshakala, President & Creative Director

ACT I: BIRTH

Life begins in possibility.
Birth introduces the soul at its most malleable, shaped by innocence, curiosity, and the first threads woven by the Fates. This act reflects emergence and becoming — a moment where identity is not yet fixed, but full of potential, guided by forces both seen and unseen.

act II: battle

Identity is tested through conflict.
Battle explores the pressures, struggles, and tensions that shape who we become. As opposing forces collide, the soul is pulled, stretched, and challenged, revealing resilience, vulnerability, and transformation. Here, the Fates tighten their grip, and the cost of becoming oneself is fully felt.

ACT III: the unknown

What remains when certainty dissolves.
The Unknown confronts the soul with uncertainty, surrender, and what lies beyond control. It is a space of ambiguity and acceptance, where identity is no longer defined by conflict, but by release. As the threads unravel and reform, the soul emerges altered — shaped not by answers, but by experience.
